Witamina D a układ mięśniowo‑szkieletowy.
Since the 1970s the interaction between the skeletal and muscular systems was a subject of many studies. It has been demonstrated that vitamin D plays an important role in controlling this interaction by maintaining an adequate level of calcium in muscle cells, thereby regulating the strength and duration of muscle contraction. This mechanism results from transgenic method of regulating the calcium influx into the cell by means of binding vitamin D with the receptor (VDR).A slower mechanism of vitamin D influence, dependent ongene transcription and synthesis of new proteins (CaBP, osteocalcin, ostepontin) stimulates the synthesis of myocytes, their differentiation, and inhibits apoptosis. In case of vitamin D deficiency a reversed phenomenon occurs. It has been clinically verified that there is a correlation between the level of vitamin D and the formation of sarcopenia and various types of myopathies as well as in the lack of effects of physical exercise. It plays a special role in increasing the fall risk. In all these irregularities vitamin D supplementation has a beneficial effect on muscle tissue.
