Gruźlica jest chorobą zakaźną o etiologii Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Do zakażenia dochodzi po bliskim kontakcie z chorym na gruźlicę płuc wydalającymzakaźne bakterie z kropelkami plwociny. Małe dzieci są bardziej narażone na aktywną postać choroby w porównaniu z dorosłymi. Z uwagi na skąpoprątkowy charakter gruźlicy u dzieci oraz problemy z uzyskaniem materiału do badań bakteriologicznych rozpoznanie jest trudne i często opiera się na zestawieniu danych z wywiadu, badań immunologicznych w kierunku zakażenia M. tuberculosis, objawów klinicznych i wyników badań radiologicznych. Dostępne obecnie szybkie testy molekularne wykrywające materiał genetyczny prątka przyśpieszają diagnostykę, ale ich czułość w postaciach skąpoprątkowych jest suboptymalna. Najczęstszą postacią gruźlicy u dzieci jest gruźlica płuc.

Abstract:
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Infection occurs after close contact with a patient with pulmonary tuberculosis who spreads infectious bacteria with sputum droplets. Young children are more likely to develop active disease in comparison with adults. Due to the paucibacillary nature of tuberculosis in children and difficulties in obtaining material for bacteriological tests, the diagnosis of the disease is challenging and often based on a combination of data from the history, immunological tests for M. tuberculosis infection, clinical symptoms and imaging studies results. Currently available rapid molecular tests detecting the genetic material of the mycobacterium accelerate the diagnosis of tuberculosis, but their sensitivity in paucibacillary forms of the disease is suboptimal. Pulmonary tuberculosis is the most common form of tuberculosis in children.
